Blackpool
We got the train down to Blackpool for the day which was something of an adventure as the first train leaving Windermere was not till 11am by which point there was something of a queue, consisting mainly of confused tourists who couldn't believe the first train wasn't till 11am. It was late of course. We had to run for our connnection which was heavingly full and full of confused tourists who couldn't believe that they had booked a seat only for the rail company to tell them the bookings were cancelled so they had to stand anyway.
I like Blackpool. It doesn't try to be anything it isn't. Seagulls, donkeys, ice creams, candy floss and sandcastles. I like the faded grandeur of its art deco buildings and wrought iron work. It must have been amazing back in the day. We plan to go back for a weekend sometime, perhaps in the winter to see the lights and take in a show.
It was windy but the weather was really not too bad as can be seen from the sun shining on this smiley lady with her smiley donkeys. The donkeys all had little name badges on their nosebands which I didn't know about until I uploaded and enlarged the photographs.
I decided what I really needed for a souvenir was a Blackpool Tower snowglobe. Of course I found one quite quickly and not only that but a glitter Blackpool Tower snowglobe. Result! :-)
