Made It To The Top! :)
After yesterday's pretty little snowfall I decided to attempt a trip up the mountain to one of my favorite places in Penns Valley, Bells Majestic View. Since this spot is accessed only by a narrow shale road, it is not plowed in Winter and I thought that today would be my best (and also safest) chance to get a few photos of the snow-covered valley below.
The trek started out fairly easily with a mostly clear road but by the time we neared the top of the mountain the way had become completely snow-covered and more than a little bit dicey (see "extra photos" pic). My husband was in a near panic state by this time and I have to admit, even I was a little anxious about the drive but there really was nowhere to even turn around so I stayed the course until we finally reached the View.
The snowy landscape that I had imagined didn't quite match up to the reality, as there was a lot less valley snow than what I had seen with my mind's eye. In any case, it was so beautiful up there and I am happy we did, indeed, make the drive. I'm pretty sure my husband was a little less happy with that and a little more happy that we made it up and back down again without incident but here he is checking out the View.
"Oh, these vast, calm, measureless mountain days, inciting at once to work and rest! Days in whose light everything seems equally divine, opening a thousand windows to show us God. Nevermore, however weary, should one faint by the way who gains the blessings of one mountain day; whatever his fate, long life, short life, stormy or calm, he is rich forever."
