Man overboard?

I'm genuinely a little confused as to what's going on in this picture...

We were down at the Lagan to watch the boy child taking part in a sculling race when this crew came past. Very slowly.

I'm not sure what happened to whoever was rowing at number 2, but I only hope they can swim. Still, well done to the rest of them for completing the race, even if it was at the expense of abandoning their crewmate.
