A Stone's Throw....

This is the octagonal Thomson's Tower, in the grounds of Duddingston Kirk. It was designed by Playfair and built in 1825 for the Duddinston Curling Society, who used it to store their stones.

The minister at that time, the Rev John Thomson, was a well known painter, and used the top floor as his studio. I was amused to learn that he named this space 'Edinburgh', so that when he didn't want to see anyone, his housekeeper could say, in all honesty, that he was 'in Edinburgh' and therefore not available!

I'm going to do the same.....from now on, custard creams shall be called 'meetings', and when anyone's trying to get me at work, they can be told, without word of a lie, that I'm having a series of meetings and cannot be disturbed. Genius!
