Short Eared Owls
Went to the new Lancashire Nature Trust Reserve by the river Alt at Lunt, just north of Liverpool. Our friend Steve had been instrumental in setting it up. When I last went it was not yet open and we were the only ones there. Now it is open and there were a few cars and quite a number of people with camouflaged 300mm or even 400mm lenses, who were mainly on the look out for short eared owls. After a very pleasant walk around the reserve watching teal and mallard land on iced over flooded fields we were lucky enough to see 3 short eared owls. You'll have to imagine them, as I just watched and enjoyed in the knowledge that my lens would never have done them justice.
