Wassail

Blip was taken at a very special occasion last night - I felt though that it might be nice to share with folks today

Wassailing is an old tradition - The aim is to awaken the apple trees  -  blip shows the Wassail Queen pouring cider into the roots of the apple tree, it is also given a slice of toast for the robin that looks after the tree and guns are fired to scare away any evil spirits - all this to ensure a good crop of apples in the autumn
All this is followed by the singing of the Incantation
"Here's to thee old apple tree
Long may you bud, long may you blow
And may your bear apple enou'
Hats full, caps full
Bushel, bushel bags full
And our pockets full too
Hurrah, Hurrah, Hurrah"

Then of course the passing round of the Wassailing cup - hot cider with brandy - super as the temperature was 1 degree
