Back in the fens this weekend the Molly dancers are scaring children witless and others are setting fire to straw bears.  

Over here in the wild west (well, Colwall anyway - slightly wild, honest) the villagers march off under flaming torches as if on a ogre hunt, we get kids to hang toast on apple trees, and shout 'Wassail' a lot.

Much more sensible.
