Traditional Patterns for Mono Monday

Out in the rain with the umbrella and all because I wanted to get this patterned fence for Mono Monday.  This was the first challenge I took part in.  I have enjoyed it ever since and learned how powerful mono images can be .  Now it is two years old and a tradition every Monday on blip.
The Maori have a tradition of painting curving patterns in red, white and black.  The patterns are painted on the ridgepole and rafters of meeting houses (wharenui)  The patterns are painted to tell the tribes genealogy.  I think this fence is like an embroidery sampler and is examples of the patterns that can be used to tell a story.  If you look at it enlarged you can see the different patterns better.
