Monday at the movies

We went to see the movie Carol today, one of the snubbed Oscar movies.  Another year of the Academy overlooking color and diversity in Hollywood films. To us it was flawless, maybe you have to be us to appreciate it, but to me it's a love story, complicated as they all can be, each in their own way. We have seen it at another theatre, I bundled up mid sickness because we thought it was playing only in limited art film theaters, which may be the case. Today, seeing it again at  this old theater on the South Shore was a trial of patience. It was filled with deaf old dames who talked through all the dialogue and crumpled popcorn bags during key scenes..."she's too old for her..." It's set in the early 50s when a love like this between two women was a crime. I was the age of Rindy, Carol's daughter in the film in those days. I read a review today where the reviewer wished to see a sequel, the story written by that 4 year old daughter about her childhood. We have come a long way, but have miles to go. Love is love. Patricia Highsmith's novel, The Price of Salt is the book the screenplay is based on, well worth the read.

We braved the cold after the film and went to a restaurant near the water, right near where I picked up blast this past summer for our international blip meet. There were so many martinis consumed during the film we had to have fitting drinks at Wahlbergers with our burgers and fries in homage to the show. See the extra, the Grey Goose vodka martini, bone dry with olives was mine, the Cosmo, T's.

I am so relieved/tearful about the hopeful news about blip. It's been quite a weekend. Emotional letting go of a beloved, and last Saab(soon), a memorable film and great hope for blip. I'm really feeling myself again, hopefully I will never experience pneumonia again...and it snowed!

This day came in with 5 inches of beautiful snow with blue skies and brilliant blue skies.
