Candelilla

Candelilla is a small plant native to Mexico and the southwest U.S. The plant is coated in a natural wax to prevent transpiration in the hot climate.  The wax is used as a binder for chewing gum, in lip balm and mixed with other waxes to harden them.

I gathered this plant in the southwest Texas desert. It's one of my favorite plants.
