About thirty or more years ago, Stevenage Borough Council arranged a collection service for old Christmas trees opposite the football ground. They were chipped and turning into wood chippings. Once they started brown wheelie bins for compostable waste about 15 years ago, they stopped the scheme as it was no longer necessary. However, word takes takes a while to get round and there is still one person dumping their old Christmas tree in the car park for recycling.
