Discharged

Easter 2014, MrsCyclops was 29 weeks pregnant and was admitted to the maternity ward with severe pre-eclampsia.  She was given steroids to develop the baby's lungs and told she could deliver any time.  An extremely kind neonatal doctor visited MrsCyclops and cyclops on the ward and explained how things were likely to go with the birth and afterwards if the baby was born at 29 weeks, and he took them to the neonatal unit and showed them round so they could see where BabyCyclops would go when he was born.  Each week (until birth at 33 weeks) he came back, and explained the progress that the baby would have made, and how delivery and afterwards would go that week.  He made all of the difference, taking a huge amount of stress and scariness out of the situation of having a premature baby.

Fast forward.  Today we had our final appointment at the neonatal unit.  BabyCyclops was weighed (13.32kg) and demonstrated his walking and we answered a few questions, then we were told that they were satisfied with his progress and we were formally discharged from their care.  We were so pleased that the doctor to do this was the same lovely doctor that was so good to us at the start.  It felt right.
