Land Girl
Bridlington Spa hosted a 40's day today. The Royal Hall was bedecked with stalls all selling/providing war time memorabilia.
This wonderful lady was stationed at the Land Girls stall. She looked wonderful and I couldn't resist approaching her to take a photo. She posed happily, if a little embarassed that I'd approached her. Bet she had some wonderful tales to tell!
There were other stalls with Army, Navy sand RAF people attending, stalls with old fashioned sweets, and the canteen was selling WWII food such as cornbeef hash. On stage we were entertained by military bands and local children singing wartime songs.
I'd got tickets for myself, mom and my sister to see The Memphis Belle Orchestra in the evening. They are the same band that played in the movie Memphis Belle. They were great doing Sing, Sing, Sing, In The Mood, Little Brown Jug, Tuxedo Junction and many more.
It was great to see people dancing. When Sing, Sing Sing came on I couldn't help dragging up my sister (Akasha on here) for a jive. She had a face like a rabbit caught in headlights but we got through it! Got mom up to jive with me to In The Mood and she almost twirled herself (like a whirling dervish) into the floor! After spinning so fast she almost fell over, we decided it was time to sit down!
Good times! =)
