My Great Success Story

Batu Caves

We decided ot head out the city to check out a couple of places nearby Kuala Lumpur.

The first stop was FRIM (the Forest Reserve Institute of Malayisia), which is a jungly forest reserve that has been grown from scratch. We got there by heading out to the road by Lini's and hailing a taxi. They're really cheap by UK standard and the guy seemed really grateful when I rounded the fare up to the closest conveniant value of Ringgit.

We checked in at the front desk and got some maps with some walks on, before choosing one of these and heading in the general direction. Just outside the reception, we crossed a bridge over a pond where some people where clapping at the water. Intrugued, we took a look in to see the largest non-shark fish I've ever seen. They're Arapaima, we saw some in the aquariam near the Petronas and they are huge!

On our walk through the small paths of the jungle we saw some awesome canopy patterns, a trail of ants that lasted for about 20 metres and a group of monkeys passing over one of the main paths.

After our long walk all the way around the reserve we went back to reception and caught a taxi to the Batu caves. Before heading up the steps, scattered with monkeys, to the caves, we stopped in an authentic Indian restaurent.

This photo was taken at the far end of the caves, where there is a temple of two. On the way back the monkeys were getting pretty agressive and we had to carefully make our back to the taxi area to get back to Lini's.

In the evening Lini very kindly took us out for some food. It was Ramadam so they were only eating after dark. After this she drove us into the city to see some of main sights by night, which was really great!
