Ode to the dragons of Bandung

Out at the property this weekend, and I have to thank Dave for getting me to pay closer attention to the dragons. I spotted this massive guy, not having ever seen anything like it around here, and delighted in watching it for a bit...making note of the jerky head movements as it was prey spotting. I had never noticed this before Dave's wonderful video of dragon hunting. Being neither as patient or stealthy as he, this is the best I could do before bothering it to the point of it leaving the property.

Many interesting bugs out there, wish I had more time to be leisurely...

edit: found it!!! It's a male common whitetail dragonfly, and it eats mosquitoes! I think I love him. I'm covered in bites again :(
