Meet Herman...

This is Herman, the German friendship cake.
He is the cake that keeps on giving.

One of my neighbours, Leah, was given her Herman 10 days ago.
Apparently, you get given a lump of goo, which you put in a bowl, cover with a tea towel and follow strict instructions on how to look after him for 9 days, then, on day 10, you cut him in quarters, 3 portions to share with friends (who like to bake, presumably) and bake the fourth.
When baked, cut Herman the German friendship cake up and share him with your friends.

I am glad I am Leah's friend, Herman was the nicest cake I have ever eaten and even more enjoyable knowing he has a long history of being shared amongst friends and will continue to be shared for a long time to come.
