A CRICKETING MEET RATHER THAN A BLIP MEET!
Having had a friend over for lunch yesterday, it was our turn to go out to lunch today with two of Mr. HCB’s cricketing friends, who live at Nailsworth in Gloucestershire.
Sadly, it was a grey and murky day, so we couldn’t really enjoy the beautiful Cotswold countryside, but it was good to meet up with Jenny and Phil again and there was much “sporting” talk, about both football and cricket and of course, Gloucester County Cricket Club, the team they all support was also discussed.
Of course, our thoughts were also with K, whose wife died earlier this week, and we all hope that going to cricket with Mr. HCB, once the season starts, will help him in some small way; apparently, Phil and Jenny have known K for over 15 years, having met him at various cricket matches.
I decided to make another collage of our day - but there were no axes involved today! Jenny is a vegetarian and Phil is a vegan, so we knew there would be no meat, but we thoroughly enjoyed the delicious Moussaka that Jenny had made with roasted vegetables and a wonderful peanut gravy.
This was followed by a vegan Pear and Ginger Christmas Pudding, which Jenny said she had saved for our visit, having made two before Christmas. I think I may be making one or two of these myself, once she lets me have the recipe.
We polished off the main course and dessert and then retired to the lounge for coffee, tea and chocolates and the one with Anglesey sea salt was my choice - truly scrumptious! I was so grateful that today was NOT a Fasting Day!
Of course, I admired Phil’s library of Wisden Almanacks and he told us he had 50 years’ worth of them. However, he wasn’t sure if he would carry on collecting them because they can now be accessed online but as Phil actually writes for an on-line cricketing website,, we might just see the 2016 edition on his bookshelf if we visit again!
All in all, a lovely day - but again, it went all too quickly. Thanks Phil and Jenny for making us so welcome - I will report back on the various recipes in due course.
It’s a wonderful feeling
to eat with friends
who share the
same passion as you!
P.S. I may not share the cricketing passion, but I do love good food!
