New baby
Today, we had our first baby calf of our herd. One of the staff asked for Dirk to come to the door - generally this is bad news and an animal is in trouble or some such. So when he came back into the house saying that we really shouldn't always expect bad news and we had a new addition it was lovely.
Clearly, we had to go and inspect to see our new calf, it's had to be brought into the garden (also known as the calf nursery) as it's mother has an abscess which is being treated, therefore is in the sick, lame and lazy paddock rather than with the other cows and calfs who are kept in each evening to protect them from the leopard. Our new calf is instead kept in a calf pen in the garden each night as protection from said leopard. There is already one little calf in there, which is delighted to have company.
Our boy is poorly this evening with a temperature, we have a feeling it's from our visit to the cafe yesterday when he decided to try and eat some stones and drink water from the fountain. We might need to get a little stricter about where he goes and what is prevented from going anywhere near his mouth. Poor, poor boy.
