Sally Mair - Loving life

Asian Paradise Flycatcher

Not a great shot, just with my phone, but wow! A beautiful bird, its tail feathers were over a foot long and the bird itself smaller than a blackbird.
It looked quite ghostly flying over head, you couldn't see the dark head at all, just the two long trailling tail feathers which looked like they were floating. Fortunately we were in the grounds of the school at the time so were able to follow it under the badum tree where it had settled. I have never seen one before but have a Salim Ali book of Indian birds. It was so beautiful and distinctive it was easy to identify. I can see how it got its name.
