The After Times

All the cars have been Raptured, which leaves us humans to take back the streets. Much baking and cooking today, and an hours-long walk through snow up past our knees (see extra photo for a taste), curtailed by a full-on blizzard in the late afternoon. We had to seek shelter and Irish coffee. Photographing again interrupted by frozen phones dying.

It's 11pm and the totals are in. We made it! 25" is the total, even though it's still snowing lightly. Only a few miles west of us, just outside the District, they had 36". We'll be skiing in the park in the morning, for sure. And there will very likely be no school on Monday or Tuesday. All public transport is shut down and the roads are impassable, so we are stuck more or less in our own neighbourhood for the next 24 hours or more.

Almost 10 years ago to the day (February 10-11, 2006), MB and I drove north from NYC to go skiing in Vermont, and didn't see a lick of fresh snow all weekend. Meanwhile, back in NYC, they were hit with the biggest snowfall they had seen since records began. It looks like they might exceed that tonight.

I love proper weather.
