We did it
Atop Franz Joseph glacier and what an experience.
0800 flight , first of the day with the amazing Steve. He was very experienced ( our age)and about to retire, but he knew his stuff and gave us an extra 15 mins as he needed to do the reckie for the glacier hikes and once he OK' d them they could go ahead.
We all loved every second of it. Who knows where my fear of heights went as I was on cloud 9. Lol.
Yet another highlight of the holiday.
After all this excitement, we had breakfast on the way north to Hanmer Springs at a very eccentric backwoods cafe, which used to be a bar, in Ross. We took the necessary "Ross" photo and headed off again.
It was a long drive and we stopped for lunch in Reeftown. Lunch was edible and I found an art gallery where 4 artists shared the space. It was around this time Alasdair became " The hat looser". He had left it behind the counter at Helicopter line. That was 2 1/2 hours drive away. After some confusion he eventually organised it's postage to Auckland. C and D would get a surprise as they didn't know about it's posting.
We arrived in Hanmer Springs and the best Top 10 campsite so far.Our very modern 2 bedroom cabin was the height of luxury , superior apartment did us very well. We walked to the spa pools and had a private spa, then sampled the rest that the park had to offer. Sulphur pools, different temperatures 37 to 41C. Jets and waterfalls to pummel the aching muscles or the ageing muscles more like.
We chomped on some Pizza and eventually crashed out quite late, but very happy.
