Short Eared Owls

We went for another visit to the newly created reserve at Lunt Meadows, with 2 friends who hadn't been before and had a lovely walk around with good views of goldfinch, wren, song thrush (singing from the treetop), and bull finch. The reserve had been created with lapwings in mind and it was good to see large numbers of these together with equally large numbers of pink footed geese. In addition there were several species of duck, kestrel and buzzard, but the highlight was once again the short eared owls. This time we saw two, one whiter and one more tawny in colour (see extras). The views were fantastic through the binoculars, but this will be the last time I attempt to take a picture of a bird with my 24-105 mm lens, which just isn't big enough. There was a row of photographers with large lenses in camouflage jackets who will have gone home with some amazing images.
