My Amaryllis

It was bought for me at Christmas, already in its pot, just remove box and water it and put in the light. All of which I did. It has gradually got taller but no leaves have appeared, there are two tiny little tips of leaves trying to come out of the bulb but today the flower bud has begun to open. I can't wait to see it in its full glory.
Does anybody know if it sometimes grows without leaves?
