Farewell Spit
Today we hopped on a 4 wheel drive bus and headed, once again, up Farewell Spit, a long spit of sand that sticks out over 35 kilometres into the Tasman sea at the far north west corner of the Sth island. Most of the area is a protected nature reserve and cannot be accessed by the public. We whizzed along the beach, stopping to look at NZ fur seals lolling in the sand, it was quite magical. The sand is being added to by 14,000 tons a day, apparently coming from the southern Alps.
