Vembanad Lake and Backwaters, Kerala

Today , tonight and early tomorrow we are cruising this lake and backwaters. The backwaters were created by the Portuguese and stand above the surrounding paddy fields. On the dykes controlling the different levels there are houses for the rich, mainly weekend homes, and the less well off and primarily agricultural workers. All side by side and only accessed by boat or footpaths .
