'Happy Australia / Invasion Day'
Whichever title is applicable to your way of thinking.
I'm torn between celebrating this fabulous country we live in and showing respect for the traditional owners and caretakers or this land we are lucky enough to call home. Can I do both?
We packed the kids up this morning and drove into the city for the day to see some current exhibitions on at the NGV.
First stop was the 'Lurid Beauty' exhibition in the Ian Potter Centre at Federation Square. I just love that gallery space to start with so just about anything that's put on display in there looks great. A real mix of different artworks on display including sculptures, paintings, videos, lighting, conceptual and the totally bizarre.
Stepped outside to Fed Square for a Gozleme for lunch and then walked down the road to the National Gallery for the Warhol / Wei Wei exhibition. I could have easily spent 3 or 4 hours exploring this one alone. So many interesting projects, videos, concepts to envelop yourself with although it's difficult with a 6 and 10 year old who just want to leave and go home to play. Nonetheless, I'm really glad We've seen some of their works, in particular Ai Wei Wei's. If you're in Melbourne in the coming couple of months I would recommend it.
Back to work tomorrow though.
