A memento

For Robbie Burns Day, a day late.
Yesterday was so busy that I didn't think of blipping this certificate that I got for reciting "Tae a Moose" in  a school competition.  It's one of the very few mementos I have from my childhood in Scotland.  I don't remember anything about the competition except that, instead of walking up the steps onto the stage like everyone else, I climbed up onto it from the front, much to the amusement of the audience.  I'm sure my face was a fiery red during the recitation.  I don't know why the certificate has been cut around the edges.
My birth name was McLaughlan.  Miller was my Canadian stepfather's name.    My first name is Jacqueline, I'm called Jackie, although some blippers think my name is Nanzy or Nancy!  Our granddaughters call me Nanzy (morphed from Nana).
Terrible  news on the weekend that one of our former students passed away.  He was the best high school athlete either of us coached, went on to play professional football with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and became an activist teacher.  He died of an apparent heart attack at 48, so unexpected for such a fit young man.  We were so saddened and are reeling from the news.
