As American as Apple Pie

As an American I love this country, but sadly I stayed in as much as possible on the 4th and for the days before and afterwards - I cannot handle 110F heat index. To make matters worse, my air-conditioner broke down so I was unwillingly able to feel some empathy with those folks who lost power in the sweltering heat. I spent two days running around trying to locate an air-conditioner and installing it.

However, this boarded up house is an all too common sad reminder of just how good I have it right now. I feel so grateful to my new country as I do to my old, but I feel for all those who have lost their homes.
