Ancient Tree

Rather breezy out on our walk today - but not too cold. No rain either - which is nice!

I have always been aware of this tree but never taken much notice of it before. I do think it has rather great character. I think it may be a rowan.

I wonder if it is some sort of boundary marker and has just been left behind after fences were put up. It has wonderful gnarled branches and the base of its trunk looks as though it has seen better days - possibly been home to some creatures. It appears to have lost its top at some point and new growth has sprouted up. It isn't dead - the branches have plenty of buds developing.
