Columns and Palms
5 years ago today we were in Alexandria on day 4 of the Egyptian Revolution. 5 years ago tomorrow we would drive through Cairo and view the burning NDP building from the bus. I’ve been thinking and reading about Egypt. The dvd I made of our trip plays on our tv complete with Egyptian music (and some good photos if I do say so :-) lots of emphasis on the art of course ) Not sure I’d know how to make one of these now… ON our walk today we passed under the freeway in Colonnade park where we often go…. these are huge concrete columns and in the middle of the picture is a palm tree —bedraggled but lit up with purples and blues (it’s art) so…I thought I’d find a picture from Egypt 5 years ago with columns and a palm tree in it (this is from the Karnak temple complex)—just for a fun comparison. First I had to find the photos —Not on the aperture drive, but on the drive before that with iphotos. Of course the computer told me that iPhoto had to be updated for them to work….but it actually managed to do that much to my amazement. It’s ONLY 5 years!
I’m enjoying reading Egypt’s 1000 days of Revolution (it reads like a blip journal!) and I also reread my sister-in-law’s fine piece of writing about this trip. (they were with us)…
Our country is so full of problems…reading about the trouble in Egypt 5 years ago and continuing today does put things a bit in perspective…
I think I’ll turn comments back on. I did 1) glean some wanted extra time without it altho I spent it staring at the computer screen anyway with the photo course) and 2) I didn’t feel so guilty not commenting on so many other journals. I liked both of those things, but I did miss a few snippets of conversation about some topics. So I’m hoping to keep up in that direction……spending less time looking, not keeping up but ready to jump in when the spirit (or that photo) moves me. I hope you understand...
Had a delightful afternoon with Oskar.. we went shopping for a birthday present for Fiona - it’s pretty funny what he bought. He also went out of his way to find the peanut butter for a lady “older than you, Granma!” in the huge Fred Meyer we were in. He's such a friendly kid..with a Passion for football. he had on his Dad's letter jacket from High school, and some of his sports awards for a report he gave at school.
This is the 23rd consecutive mono or B and W blip--I said I was going for the whole month... well, I need some color tomorrow but the class continues so there will be more B and W...
