James Hutton
There is a memorial to James Hutton, the 'Father of Geology' near the Pleasance in Edinburgh. We studied Geology in Edinburgh many moons ago, and today was the first time I looked at his memorial near where he lived. It carefully says the plaque has no scrap value (sad times). 'We find no vestige of a beginning, no prospect of an end' That is certainly profound for the 18th century, and still not accepted by some today.
