A lady of letters...
An enforced three hour wait in Costco (waiting for car tyres to be fitted) and I came across this fascinating book.
Amongst many others, it included a letter from Richard Burton to Elizabeth Taylor when they were newly separated, it was very touching; no recriminations just an expression of his continued love for her.
A letter from the head of the hospital to which president Kennedy was taken following his assassination, with the message that he was pleased that 'whilst the hospital and its staff had been unexpectedly thrust into the world's media, they had not been found wanting.'
There was also a reply from David Bowie, who at the age of 20, had just received his first fan letter from the USA. He was so touched by it that he there and then typed out a letter expressing his gratitude.
A fascinating collection of letters, as the book says, ' deserving of a wider audience'.
