The New Road
It's not new, not really. It's a good few years since we climbed through the forest (now disappeared) and came upon a forestry road that was clearly a work in progress: it was deep in mud from vehicle tracks, and still had great clefts where the hillside burns cut across it. Now, however, it's a fairly firm road and has been used in the clearance of all the forestry that was brought down in the tornado that swept the hillside a couple of years ago.
This is the view at the top of the hill above the Bishop's Glen, before the road curls down round the hillside, crosses the burn on a sturdy wooden bridge and joins the old track which goes all the way from the glen to the Ardyne car park, should one be feeling energetic.
A good walk for today, in that the hillside protected us from the icy wind and hail showers that made the initial climb quite testing. And in between there was sun ...
