Glacial Magnificence!
Good to be back in the mountains of my Brecon Beacons.
Up early to lead a walk to the Canadian Bomber crash site and Fan Y Big. The forecast looked relatively good, a chance of some snow flurries and wind gusts approaching 50mph around summits and ridges. So the wind was a potential concern.
It was fine for most of the way along the ridge from Craig Y Fan Ddu and when we proceeded down to the crash site. Upon returning back to the ridge and making our way towards Fan Y Big we were taking a right battering, no gusts, this was constant barraging. The path underfoot was a bit treacherous as well, and then we got caught in a snow flurry. Given the ridge that we were now on was going to be exposed to this wind for quite some time, I decided to call it off and return from whence we came. The mountain will always be there, you might not be if you take a risk too far.
So here’s a pic of the Beacons in its glacial magnificence!
