J.M.W. Turner exhibition at the A.G.O.
Today was the second-last day for the J.M.W. Turner: Painting Set Free exhibition of his works at the Art Gallery of Ontario. It was quite a large show and also featured a handful of other Impressionists such as Monet.
Linda and I enjoyed the works and wandered around the other galleries. In the extra photos, I've included a work of Canadian Impressionism, a mountain scene by Group of Seven member Lawren Harris and a hunting scene by Dutch-born painter of Canadian landscapes, Cornelius Krieghoff.
Featured here is Turner's The Hero of a Hundred Fights (c.1800-1810, 1847) on loan from the Tate. I chose this piece because it is unusual for Turner. His landscapes, ships, and battle scenes are themes for which he is best known. I like the unusual colours for Turner and scene. It's industrial, mechanical, and Hellish. And fabulous.
