Calculation, on a grain of rice
Well, yes, I cheated. Quickly realizing the number doubling out of control, I used manual calculation, not rice grains, for this answer. My calculator quickly went into exponential notation. The tower of rice would be very large!
This grew (!) out of a pile of rice I counted out for my 1000th blip.
Arachne was reminded of an old question in her comment to me :
put one grain of rice on one square of a chess board. Double that and put two on the next square. Double that and put four on the next. And so on. How much rice do you have on the last square?
Answer (I think) is : 9,216,972,036,854,775,808
Mind boggling!
