Eco tourism in Cuba
Today we sample eco tourism with a visit to Las Terrazas, a UNESCO Biospshere Reserve in the mountains.
It’s a pioneering green project, one of the first of its kind in the world.
“This is an eco hotel,” said Norberto, our guide, as we entered the reception area of Hotel Mokar with its 100-year-old rain tree tree growing through the centre of the lobby. Regretfully we are only visiting not staying.
Nonroberto, had qualified as a vet but he earned more money as a taxi-driver. It’s a familiar story –teachers, lawyers, and doctors quitting their chosen professions to work in the tourist industry.
