George Heriot's School
Woke up to an inch of snow and more on the way. It didn't stay long, by lunchtime it had all melted, but there was the occasional flurry later in the day. Edinburgh looks pretty in the snow. This is George Heriot's School on Lauriston Place, established in 1659.
I was passing on my way from the King's Theatre, where I collected a few show tickets, to the National Library on George IV Bridge. I went to see Plague! a rather nice little exhibition about the contagious diseases afflicting people in Scotland over the past 700 years, along with society's reactions to contagion. The exhibition looks at various infectious diseases; typhoid, cholera, influenza, syphilis, and bubonic plague. I was amazed to find that the most recent outbreak of bubonic plague was in Glasgow in 1900.
Later I saw The Weir at the Lyceum Theatre, it was good. Perhaps not as good as the reviews suggested, or maybe just not my cup of tea, but a pleasant way to spend a cold dreich afternoon.
