Derelict Sunday, The End....
This is a small piece of the railway "the German railroad" which was used during the Second World War. Immediately after the German invasion in the Netherlands in 1940, was decided to build Volkel Airfield. They started with it in the second half of 1940 and the first half of 1941. This was one of the airfields which was used to protect the German Ruhr region against Allied air strikes. Obviously there had to be ammunition for the artillery, witch was transported on this railway.
Hence its name "the German railroad"
On this spot was a camouflaged train platform. The Germans packed the platform in a large canvas on which the windows and doors of a farm were painted. In this way, they hid the train with the ammunition... The foundation and a piece of the rails are still visible and now a part of our history! You can see this in the extra Blip!
