Clock Lodge Lochgilphead
I pass this building at least twice a day to and from work.. Its slowly falling down which I find extremely sad. I have known this building all my life and although it was derelict most of that time - I think now its beyond repair. Ive given it a little scary twist on PS which seems appropriate.
For those interested in the history: the French styled Clock Lodge is situated on the loch-side road leading to Kilmory. It was built by Sir John Orde (Kilmory Castle) to serve as the gate-house for a projected private causeway across the head of Loch Gilp, the remains of which can still be seen at low water stretching away in the direction of Brackley on the opposite shore. The plan, however, met with tremendous opposition from local folk due to its interference with shipping rights, and the much-chagrined baronet was finally compelled to breach his newly-completed structure in order to allow free passage up and down the loch.
Local history has it that it was built by Sir John to avoid going through the town as his horse and carriage had previously knocked down a small boy and the locals were up in arms.
