RSPB Birdwatch 2016
The Birdwatch was started by the RSPB some 37 years ago and provides invaluable information about wild bird species populations in the UK. It takes place during the last weekend of January and we are asked to spend 1 hour observing either our garden or a park, for those without gardens. Only birds that land or park can be counted. We then record the highest number of each bird species seen at one time.
My best vantage point is one of our back bedrooms: usually if I wanted to take photos, I'd open the not very clean window but firstly it was cold and secondly I didn't want to spook any possible feathered visitors!
They say that a watched pot never boils: well I always feel that the same applies to a watched garden! Generally we have frequent visits from a wide number of species, but during the hour when I watch....
This year's grand total was:
4 Blue tits
1 Blackbird
2 Magpies
2 Jackdaws
1 Robin
1 Woodpigeon
The shots of the Blue tits were the only ones anywhere near good enough to post.
In other news: we were shocked and saddened to learn of the death of Sir Terry Wogan this morning. He had a long and varied career in broadcasting but we especially loved his commentaries on the Eurovision Song Contest: such wonderful dry humour! He will be greatly missed.
