Life through the lens...

Mallyan Spout

After a huge breakfast, which included some Whitby kippers!
We braved the gale force wind and walked/climbed down to the waterfall.Fortunately down there it was sheltered from the wind, and the sun came out.
The water cascading from Mallyan Spout rises from springs in the moorland above Goatland, It finds the easiest route downhill until it meets New Wath Scar.
This deep ravine was cut by the flowing water of West Beck, which over thousands of years has eroded a path through the sandstone.
At Mallyan Spout the sides of the ravine are 70 feet high and almost vertical. Water draining from the moors has no option but to tumble over the edge - forming a towering waterfall.
The collage shows the falls, West Beck and the " path" we clambered over to reach them.

We then retraced our steps, and followed the path up and down until we reached the hamlet of Beck Hole.
Then back up to Goathland, were the gales seemed even stronger!
Glad when we reached the hotel and sat in front of a warm fire with a cup of tea!

In spite of the weather, we have all had a wonderful couple of days, and will certainly go back again.
Such a homely, and friendly hotel, with good food, and great bedrooms.
I can certainly recommend it.
( The cast of Heartbeat used to stay there. One of the waitresses told us some great tales about them!)
