28.Walk to Fairy Glen
There is book called Walks on The Isle of Skye by Mary Welsh. Of the many walks she describes there is one as named in the title of this image.
The walk commences near to Calligarry on the Sleat peninsula and takes one down through a steep wooded valley. Though the path appears well used it is not wide and not very distinct. Suddenly one comes out of the thich undergrowth and the vista of a secluded bay opens up before one.
Upon reaching the shore we found a home-made hammock suspended between two trees. Immediately my lad went over and lay in it whilst my wife watched. So here we are one the beach. Crystal clear water; lots of flat stones for skimming; lots of rock pools; many interesting nooks for a child or adult to explore. I would say a wonderful place to entertain young children if only we still had some.
We met a couple from Derbyshire who said they come there every year and this was the first time they had arrived to find some people there before them. The lady explained that her husband had scrambled over the rocks on the south side of the bay because he knew he would see otters there.
If you come to Skye I can recommend both the book and the walk. There are 37 walks in the book. The descriptions are clear with extra details written in. There are easy walks such as this one and there are more adventurous ones.
