For Sale: Scheveningen Pier

The original Victorian Pier was built in 1901, and lost in 1943 as a result of, the second world war. That one lay just 100 meters south of the current pier.

This Pier is a pleasure pier in the Dutch resort town of Scheveningen near the Hague. Opened in 1959, the current pier is the second in the town,

It's unusual construction boasts two levels for the main pier, the lower deck a closed-in section, the upper open to the elements, and four terminal sections called 'islands', each originally with a separate focus. Its total length is currently 382 metres.

After a period of decay the pier was purchased in 1991 by the van der Valk Motel Group for one Dutch guilder!!!
The company has set about investing in the pier's future, refurbishing the main span and one island constructing a restaurant and casino. A hotel on one island is promised for the coming years.

But it's for sale now. And I'm sure they'll ask substantial more than their symbolic purchase price ;-)
