I Like It

Just me
and a couple of distant others
and the No Dogs sign.

Suits me fine.

Come Easter
it will be a different story
and in August
the hordes will descend.

I recall an evening walk
last August
when we came across
all the signs of a picnic.

Cans, polystyrene containers,
plastic plates and…
two soiled nappies.

Yes, they really had
left their shit on the beach.

We cleared some of it up
but couldn’t face the nappies.

We left those
for the incoming tide.

Perhaps there needs to be
a new sign?
