Cultures Combined
Midland Park, in the heart of Wellington's CBD, is a gathering place to meet and eat. This fountain sculpture is by a Colombian artist, Silvia Salgado, who came to NZ in the 1990's to teach. The piece is called Nga Korerorero, or Ongoing Talk.
It represents communication and relationships among friends and families.
The sculptured fountain is made out of bronze, steel, concrete on slate tiles. The mixed-media water sculpture refers to both geology- the forms suggest tectonic plates- and a human element - the stepping stones and the bronze talking heads. Kids love to climb all over it.
