The Monarch Butterfly

 Today I watched a caterpillar change into a chrysalis and a butterfly emerge from a chrysalis.

This photo shows the caterpillar at three different stages. Notice the muted colours of the one in the J shape. It takes on quite a green hue as it prepares for the transformation.

-          For the first time this summer I had four different stages of the cycle on two plants - an active caterpillar, one in the J shape in readiness to change into a chrysalis, a new chrysalis and finally, the butterfly I watched as it emerged from its chrysalis this morning.
-          The remaining photos show the changes from caterpillar to chrysalis.
