Baroque and French
Backblipped for 5.2.16
Today's Heroes of the Orchestra lunchtime talk at Heriot-Watt featured Alec Frank-Gemmill, Principal Horn player in the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, who demonstrated the evolution of the instrument from its beginnings as a hunting horn (also known as the Baroque), via the Natural Horn, which may have a variety of interchangeable crooks (which vary the length of the tubing) to change the pitch, through to the complex, valved, French Horn we know today.
Amazingly, articulate, talented and world-renowned, Alec is only 30 years old.
