Making Rice Krispy Treats

Maya is having a tenth birthday party tonight…a slumber party with 11 girls, so Tim, Owen and Olive the dog elected to come up here. Owen and I made Rice Krispy Treats…three tablespoons melted butter, a bag of melted marshmallows and 6 cups of Rice Krispies. The result is a gloppy, stringy mass which is then pressed into a  pan. I have had many a conversation with adults and children alike about why it is that three ingredients which don't appeal to me on their own can taste so good when stirred together….
Although the explanation eludes everybody, the fact remains that they are quite good. Owen and I decided to guild the lily by putting melted chocolate on the top.

Olive has made herself comfortable on Ozzie's new bed, which replaced the one Rudy and Blake destroyed. Ozzie has decamped to our bedroom where he has another bed. Dana and JIm are coming for dinner tonight. The boys won't be joining us because they are both serving at the high school 'crab feed' fund raiser.

Now if that isn't the most perfect, slightly retro, suburban day, I don't know how we could possibly improve upon it….perhaps a rousing game of catch outside which is what Tim and Owen are currently doing.
