City above the city!
More old Bradford but we started the day in the new.
After a huge breakfast we went to look around the new Broadway Shopping centre. Very pleasant on a Sunday morning when it is nearly empty! Quite impressed with the M&S and the Debenhams (haven't had one of these in Bradford since Busby's, which became Debenhams, burned down in the late '70's.)
We then decided to head up to Undercliffe Cemetery, well known but never visited by us. It has frequently been used as a back drop for documentaries and news features on Bradford as well as for a film setting. A couple of years ago when I was involved in Songs of Praise at the Cathedral an out piece was done by Tom Courtney which was filmed up here.
At the end of this avenue there is an extensive view over the city and that is why it featured on yesterday's mural ( left hand side behind the Cathedral).
It is like a city in itself for the great and good of Victorian Bradford. The monuments mainly date from the 19th century though we did see one of the first Lord Mayor who died in 1921. Also that of Bob Cryer, a local teacher who became MP for Keighley, whose untimely death in office was in 1995.
Pretty chilly and breezy up there today as it must nearly always be!
Back home now as we have a Panto rehearsal this afternoon which also includes Chris who will be doing the lighting.
A full and interesting weekend.
